After the thaw....

On returning to the city. On rock n roll, real rock n roll. On moles. On Crobar. On The Beat Juice. On beer shill Lemmy. On removing swearwords from the flyer to appease sponsors.

49% mother fucker

Whilst Listening to Polly Jean Harvey.

Day time dawdling doodles and dreaming.
Luminations on life and as GBS put it, "the alternative".
Why do people say they are scared of flying.
Scared of crashing surely would be more accurate?

Backhand or forehand it comes to us all at some point.
To some before time and to many long overdue.

Spin on the ball.
Slice.
Duck and dazzle.

Whiff Whaff Chiff Chaff.

NEW WORK/NIKE/1948/SATURDAYNIGHT/

The past two weeks I have been cutting, sticking, scanning, inverting, photoshopping type for Nike. Tim Barber creator of the mighty, Tiny Vices, took the shots and I got to muck about with them, I hope he doesn't mind.

In a drawing drought it was good to do some more knifey/gluey stuff.

There will be a wall in the 1948 pop up on Bateman's Row, covered in these posters.

Saturday night....

Gallows are playing a gig, Niall O Brien has filmed some spectacular stuff, Joe Duffy has been hammering beautiful object, should be a good night. Especially if I get some free Air Max 90's. haha.

More images to come.

Hells Angels. Via Kick To Kill via BBC Blog

The Runaways screening.

Here's a flyer wot I dun for Hanna Hop a long Hanra, (poor girl broke her foot on a curbstone)
The filum is about The Runaways, the band Joan Jett was in before she was Joan Jett. It is being screened ce soir in the swanky new kino, the aubin. So comfortable is this cinema, the ushers have to pry viewers out of their seats at the end of the films. Stuck in there like guardian reading barnacles.
This flyer is for the afterparty, what is the most after after party, I saw pre carnival parties.
I might have a post after pre party. In my pants.

Thought for the day number 1. Love or wuv.

Wuv is in the air. In the same way bears smell fear, blue swans can smell love.
Somewhere above the clouds in Swiss cheese land tomorrow two pen weilding scribbloids are due to tie the proverbial knot. Witnessed by cows, buxom women in those beir kellar dresses, exiled nazis and representatives from the higher escelons of Maltese law community.
Quite an event.
Good luck to them.

AOL Talkies/I wasn't expecting to have to do this.....

Here is a link to the AOLArtists site, the section in which we are seen to be answering questions straight off the cuff, hence the slightly bewildered look. It was a good day. I talk a load of nonsense about the space race, pencils and other flim flam.

Knew New York

Here's a picture of the artist's that have been contributing to Aol's
rebrand/exhibition/website/ad stuff etc. Spot Celyn, Dave "what do you mean you don't like the Ipad" White, me, Chrissy Angliker, Paul McAnelly, Jenny Bowers, Darren Booth, Chuck Close, Antoine & Manuel and loads of other people whose names I cannot remember or never knew.

We visited their head office on Broadway which is covered in illustrations, and they have commissioned Chuck Close to produce a series of portraits of creative people including, Gus Van Sant, Dean Kamen and some guy called the Dalai Lama. This was shown in the New Museum also on the Bowery, see it's all very close together 'cos there were a lot of glamourous people wearing heels and whatnot, and it was about 90 degrees c.

Chuck Close is now the proud owner of a copy of Bare Bones, unless he's chucked it out. We all got signed copies of his new book, which are stunning but weigh a tonne and were a nause to carry about all night ha ha. The whole thing was over in a flash and the next day we had to go meet Wolff Olins and Aol Brand Team for a presentation, which was fun,
"Hi, my name's Harry and I'm from London and I draw pictures."
They were all lovely and positive.
No Londonish undercurrent of cynicism to be found anywhere.

Here is the Aol artists site.

Sweet.

Boom Bip Boom Bip

At the end of last week whilst searching for a wedding haircut, I got interviewed by the 5ft 6" (in huge heels) tornado that is Bip Ling. Like most good things it was all over in a matter of moments and I was left wondering just what had happened. I'm still not sure soon I can find out via her blog. She like animals, art and taking pictures of her herself in the bathroom, not like that though.
We talked Bare Bones, my drop (I didn't know what that meant either) architecture and anthropomorphism, no really. Check her out, she's destined for big things.

Thursday is print day

Printclub have aet up thier studio in the old thick walls of Somerset House. They have invited me to go there and do some printing with CEPT the graffoid. I don't know if we are going to be working together or what but it should be fun.

It's part of the Pick Me Up show which is on there. Don't waste your time going to se it, unless you're into dull, insipid illustration and digital art.

The saving graces of the show is Le Gun's Bum, end of the pier style gag.
Stick your head up Le Gun's arse.

CSM MA Talk

After I did a talk for the 1st and some 2nd year MA students at St Martins,
Si Sherlock made a fold out leaflet based on my words of erm, wisdom, no, experience.
Apparently they all had a good time and they said nice things about me in the leaflet.
The final show will up in the Rochelle School in June.
Well worth a look.

Thanks to all the CSM kids for turning up.

Birmingham Bullring

Spent the last two days in sunny Birmingham. Met tonnes of nice people and some fully blown weirdos. Kids came and coloured these images in unimaginable combinations. Really inspiring.
And all for a good cause.
More photos here.

The interview process

When interviewing Mr Niall O Brien for fashion organ, Dazed & Confused, I nipped to the jacks as they say in Eire, whilst I was gone he kindly filled in the answers to my carefully planning and constructed questions, the rest is now dim and distant e-history floating around in the ether matrix somewhere.

The King Of The Norfolk Poachers

It's no wonder he was never caught for his moon lit deeds. The nose of a terrier and the stealth of an owl he creeped and wandered the green lanes and headlands of lower Norfolk. Recording his memories in a book called, "I Walked By Night" edited by Lilas Rider Haggard, it is a fascinating read.

Polly Tootal and The Maytals

Polly put the kettle on has her new web site up and running like a lurcher. Check it.
She must spend hours hanging around in weird places after dark. If you see her at 4am on a desolate industrial estate go and say hello, she'll tell you a joke.

Fragments from the bigger picture....

A Prophet goes to the supermarket, he's after some new shoes and a debtor drug lord.

Steve O Hawkins wheels along as good rats kick to kill, burgundy Vans and Norwich City tops.

The modern mother, one egg sandwich shy of total cardio-aneurysm, takes Leval and Connor down to the arcades.

Here, in the forest....

Here, we see, in it's natural habitat, the Research mural. Nesting in the entrance hall or waiting room if you will, of Research Studios, the Angel based London HQ of Neville Brody's global design empire. The inhabitants of the studios are kind, gentle people they apply their craft with thought, precision and care. A non violent tribe, they are most amiable and have a very swish coffee machine.

No one could have forseen, the fighting, the blood and the police.

Previously described as a cross between Spotty, Larry Clark and a Dunhill model, Niall O Brien now closely resembles a cross between, Spotty, Barry McGuigan and Pete Burns. Amazing what a load of gin can do for a person.
